Sarrat is a fourth class municipality in the province of Ilocos Norte, Philippines
. It is situated geographically east of Laoag City. Other municipalities that form part of its boundaries are: Vintar, Piddig, Solsona
and San Nicolas
. The town is crossed and cut into two by the Padsan River, creating a north and south areas and connected by Sarrat Bridge According to the latest census, it has a population of 23,810 people in 5,339 households.
Few years after the colonization of the Spaniards, the town was renamed to San Miguel. It gained township status on September 29, 1724. Two notable legislators in former senators Santiago Fonacier and Isabelo delos Reyes eventually created the bill that changed the town's name from San Miguel to Sarrat in 1916.
The Sarrat Heroes monument erected at the town plaza symbolizes the heroism and bravery of all Sarrateños. "Ritritem'mon Kayong" was their war cry and it still echoes on the true-blood Sarrateños until now.

A regular and daily trip to neighboring Laoag City is provided by LSJODA (Laoag-Sarrat Jepney Operators and Drivers Association). As the association's name imply, a jepney is the main form of transportation. It takes around 15 minutes travel-time on a usual day.
The nipa hut cottages along the banks of the Padsan River comes in second to attracting visitors. It is located at barangay San Joaquin (Barrio Uno) and is maintained by private entrepreneurs from the same barangay. These nipa huts are seasonal: built around december purposely for the summer season and are dismantled as soon as the rainy season kicks in. The nipa huts not only offer shade and comfort to the visitors but are equipped with Videoke system to complete the entertainment.

History
Cabayugan. This was how the people, led by the village chief Bang'at and his wife Sarrah, called their humble place. This was before the arrival of the Spaniards on the late part of the 16th century. Sarrat is a compound of the couple's names and is believed to be coined by their son Garo.Few years after the colonization of the Spaniards, the town was renamed to San Miguel. Transportation
Going around the poblacion is served by the tricycles (Filipino: traysikel), a local term for a motorized transport made by pairing a motorcycle with a locally fabricated side car.
