Salt Creek is a stream
in the southern part of the U.S. state
of Indiana
. A tributary
of the East Fork of the White River
, the creek begins in southwestern Bartholomew County
, flows through southern parts of Brown
and Monroe
counties, and meets the White River just downstream from Bedford
in Lawrence County
. In far southwestern Brown County and much of southern Monroe County, the creek flows through Lake Monroe
, which was created by damming Salk Creek in 1965.
Multiple archaeological site
s from the Late Archaic period have been discovered along Salt Creek and its tributaries. Four of them, known as Axsom Branch (Brown County), Epsilon II (Monroe County), Kappa V (Monroe County), and Refuge #7 (Brown County), were important enough to qualify for addition to the National Register of Historic Places
in 1986, although Axsom Branch and Refuge #7 have since been removed from the National Register.
