SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering in collaboration with Carnegie Mellon University offers for the first time in India: Carnegie Mellon's Master of Science degree program in Information Technology with specialization in Software Engineering, Robotics Technology, Embedded Systems and Software Management.

It is a one and a half year full time residential program. The first year is offered in SSN School of Advanced Software Engineering.

In this period, the students complete core courses, prerequisites, electives and project work. Experienced faculty of SSNSASE and practicing professionals conduct the courses in the first year using Carnegie Mellon courseware. The faculty of SSNSASE and Carnegie Mellon University continuously evaluate the students.

On successful completion of the one-year curriculum in India, the students get a certificate from Carnegie Mellon University. They can then proceed to Carnegie Mellon University to complete further studies in six months, and obtain the MSIT degree. The coursework at Carnegie Mellon University consists of project work under the supervision of Carnegie Mellon University and two electives.

Admission

Admissions into all courses are done by following the rules and regulations that exist during that year. A certain percentage of seats go into the Anna University Single Window System and the remaining seats are included in the management quota. The percentage may vary each year. A test and an interview is conducted for Management Quota seats for Bachelors Courses and candidates are shortlisted solely based on merit and proper consideration of caste

Students will study in India at SSN following a curriculum designed by Carnegie Mellon and taught by SSN faculty trained at Carnegie Mellon. They will also study at Carnegie Mellon's main campus in the United States in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Admission and academic processes will have the same rigorous standards as at Carnegie Mellon. On completion of the course, students will receive Carnegie Mellon degrees.

 was started in the academic year of 2004-2005 with a sanctioned student intake of 30 and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. From the academic year of 2011-2012, the sanctioned intake has been doubled to 60.

Currently, the department is headed by Dr. K. Ramakrishnan, M.E (Chem), Ph.D. The total number of faculty members in the department is eight, and the teacher student ratio is 1:11. Three of the faculty members are having Ph.D qualification and three others are pursuing doctoral research programs. . One of the faculty members has authored a book titled “An Insight into Chemical Engineering” which is widely used by chemical engineering students for the GATE. Many faculty members have published more than thirty six research papers in peer reviewed international journals.

The department has about 5400 sqm of carpet area, individual office rooms for every faculty member, spacious class rooms with Wi-Fi connections. Laboratories are equipped with the required experimental facilities as stipulated by the affiliating university. Modern analytical instruments and chemical engineering softwares (ANSYS, Chem CAD) are available for carrying out research program. The Central library has a collection of more than 1000 books on various chemical engineering topics and the department has subscribed for 13 national and international journals. It has access to many e-journals of sciencedirect and springerlink. In addition to this, the department library has about 300 books.

The students are securing 100% result in university examinations with good university ranks. Industrial visits and tours are arranged once in a year to facilitate learning. Students are required to undergo inplant training in process industries as part of the curriculum. Students of third and final year of study are provided training in soft skills and professional and personality development so as to equip them for placement. Guidance is given for competitive exams such as GATE, GRE, etc. The chemical engineering graduates of this institute have got the best placements in the core sector as well as in software industries.
