She was commissioned into the German Imperial Navy on 16 December 1915 as SM UB-19."SM" stands for "Seiner Majestät" (His Majesty's) and combined with the U for Unterseeboot would be translated as His Majesty's Submarine. The submarine sank 14 ships in 15 patrols. UB-19 was sunk by the British Q ship Penshurst
