Rybnik County is a unit of territorial administration and local government (powiat
) in Silesian Voivodeship
, southern Poland
. It came into being on January 1, 1999, as a result of the Polish local government reforms passed in 1998. Its administrative seat is the city of Rybnik
, although the city is not part of the county (it constitutes a separate city county). The only town in Rybnik County is Czerwionka-Leszczyny
, which lies 15 km (9 mi) north-east of Rybnik.
The county consists of three disjoint parts, separated by the city of Rybnik. The total area of the county is 224.63 square kilometres (86.7 sq mi). As of 2006 its total population is 73,527, out of which the population of Czerwionka-Leszczyny is 28,486 and the rural population is 45,041.

to the east, the city of Jastrzębie-Zdrój to the south, Wodzisław County to the south-west, and Racibórz County
