Bridport was the son of the Hon. Maurice Henry Nelson Hood, who was killed in action at Gallipoli

Lord Bridport married firstly Pamela Aline Mary, daughter of Charles J. Baker, in 1934. They were divorced in 1945 and he married secondly Sheila Jeanne Agatha, daughter of Johan Hendrik van Meurs, in 1945. Bridport died in July 1969, aged 58, and was succeeded by his son from his second marriage, Alexander. His second wife died in 1996.
