Romanian Supercup

The Supercupa României is a football competition, held at the beginning of each domestic season and disputed between the winners of Romanian Liga I
and the winners of Cupa României. It was usually played at National Stadium in Bucharest. During the period when the new Stadionul Naţional
is being built, the Supercup's venue is randomly decided at each edition. Until 2010 the event wasn't held in seasons where the same team won both Liga I
and Cupa României.
In 2010
, for the first time in the competition's history, the Supercup was held even though CFR Cluj
had achieved the double in the previous year. They faced Unirea Urziceni, the 2009-2010
Liga I's runner-ups. The final's venue was CFR's Stadionul Dr. Constantin Rădulescu, a privilege granted to CFR for their domestic honors earned in the previous season..
The competition started off in 1994. The most successful performers so far have been Steaua Bucureşti with 5 wins, followed by Rapid Bucureşti with 4.
signed a one-year sponsorship deal. The name of the competition was changed to Supercupa României Samsung for the 2005 and 2006 editions.
On October 9, 2006, FRF and Ursus Breweries (part of the SABMiller
group) signed a sponsorship agreement for the next three seasons. Ursus Breweries changed the name of the competition to Supercupa României Timişoreana, after the Timişoreana
