during 1913 and at the outbreak of World War I
. He served upon HMS Canada between 1915 and 1918 and participated in the Battle of Jutland
. He was the Captain
in charge of Harwich Docks, and commanded Shotley Training Establishment
in 1923. He was promoted to Rear Admiral on 4 April 1931 and appointed Rear Admiral in command of HM Australian Squadron between 7 April 1932 and 19 April 1934. On 2 January 1933 he was appointed Companion of the Order of the Bath.
He died of illness on 17 December 1934.
