Rizal Technological University (RTU) is an educational institution situated in Mandaluyong City
, Philippines
. RTU was established on July 11, 1969 and formerly known as the Rizal Technological College.
Today, RTU has the distinction of being the first educational institution in the Philippines to utilize Cooperative Education
as a curriculum plan which is recognized by various industries, businesses and agencies all over the country.
Aside from being the pioneer of several innovative academic programs in the Philippines, such as Doctor of Technology Education, Master of Science in Engineering Education, Master of Science in Astronomy, Bachelor of Science in Astronomy Technology, Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Instrumentation and Control Technology, Information and Communications Technology, RTU has established itself as National Instrumentation and Control Center and Welding and Research Training Center.
RTU has been the pilot school of Technology Resource Center under the Ministry of Human Settlements and now a member of the school network implementing the Engineering and Science Education Program
(ESEP) of the Philippines.
Furthermore, RTU is the only university in the Philippines that offers degree courses in astronomy.
in response to the utmost request of the Provincial Board of Rizal, headed by the Governor Isidro S. Rodriguez, to put up a higher education institution in the Province of Rizal. It was first known as the College of Rizal.

In 1975, upon the establishment of the Metropolitan Manila Commission, Pasig and Mandaluyong was transferred to the territorial jurisdiction of the Metro Manila
. The Province of Rizal could not continue supporting financially the Colleges. Several alternatives were proposed to save the RTC. One was to transfer the management and administration of the RTC to one of the existing towns in the Province of Rizal or Metro Manila. The worst possible alternative was to phase out the Colleges. The leadership, the faculty, and the studentry of the Colleges would not allow this to happen, however, so they worked out the possible nationalization of the RTC. Through the support of then Metropolitan Manila Governor Imelda Marcos
, the RTC constituency, with the Kabataang Barangay School Chapter of the RTC, and the Collegiate and High School Faculty Clubs at the forefront of the struggle for survival, President Ferdinand E. Marcos signed into law Presidential Decree 1341-A on April 1, 1978 converting the Rizal Technological Colleges into a State College. The decree, however, was received only on October 13, 1978; thus, the RTC has been celebrating its College Week, and later its University Week on the days centred on October 13.
Program of RTU, it shall continue to lead in the provision of work-integrated learning through partnership with industry and involvement of students in civic activities.
The functions and services of RTU are not confined to instruction alone as it is has shifted to full gear towards the enhancement of its research and development programs and continued to pursue the policy of sharing its expertise and resources with the community through its non-formal education programs and extension services.
At present, RTU rises as a state university that will unceasingly fulfill its mission, vision, goals and objectives.
The Rizal Technological University is committed to develop highly competitive and responsible human resource through pursuit of prestigious professional, scientific, technological and special instruction and promotion of worldclass research and extension services.

The administrative jurisdiction of the Antipolo campus of Rizal Technological University has been transferred to the University of Rizal System, also a government-funded state university.
RTU is the first state university in Mandaluyong City and Pasig City, Metro Manila.
The Bachelor of Science in Astronomy Technology is a five-year intensive program designed to prepare undergraduate students to become future research scientists and technologists in the field of astronomy. The program itself is a merging of two well established sciences, Astronomy and Engineering, as evidenced by the number of astronomy and technology-related courses required to earn the degree.
The Diploma in Astronomy is a Postgraduate degree program that can be completed in two semesters and one summer session. It is designed for astronomy educators, beginning to advanced amateur astronomers, and casual enthusiasts. Prospective students should have a prior Bachelor's degree in order to enroll in this program.
The Master of Science in Astronomy program was created to form future research astronomers and leaders in formal astronomy education in the country.
RTU Blue Thunders earned six times defending Over-All Champion in SCUAA
and won the 2009 Over-All Champion in 13th UniGames in CPU, Iloilo. The RTU Blue Thunders participated and won in athletics competition around the Philippines.
In addition, the RTU Blue Thunders men's basketball team got a silver medal in 2009 Penang Unity Chief Basketball Minister Friendship Cup invitational basketball tournament.

Rizal Technological College
On March 20, 1975, the College of Rizal in Pasig and Rizal Technical High School in Mandaluyong, both situated in the Province of Rizal, were merged and converted into the Rizal Technological College (RTC) by the virtue of Presidential Decree (PD) No. 674 The decree authorized the expansion of curricular programs and promotion of researches in the development and conservation of natural resources in the Province of Rizal. The promulgation of P.D. No. 751 on July 25, 1975 amended certain provisions of P.D. No. 674 and made the operation and maintenance of the Rizal Technological Colleges a joint project and undertaking of the Provincial Government of Rizal and the Meralco Foundation, Incorporated. After 19 years, the College was converted into the Rizal Technological University on October 11, 1997 by virtue of Republic Act (RA) No. 8365. Laboratory High School (LHS)
The Rizal Technological University - Laboratory High School, also known as RTU-LHS, is the high school department of the RTU and it is situated inside the main campus in Mandaluyong City. The RTU - Laboratory High School provides secondary (high school) curriculum with added technology-based subjects such as electronics, civil technology, drafting, metal works and machine shop for boys and girls, and business technology, food trades and garment trades for girls only.
