River Lumi

The River Lumi is located in Tanzania
. It originates on the north side of Mount Kilimanjaro
, and flows so close to the River Rombo as almost to form a fork. The Lumi, however, maintains its southerly direction, and may thus be said to represent the upper course of the Ruvu (or Pangani River
).
Lake Jipe
is only a sort of backwater of the Lumi, from which the river issues again as the Ruvu. After receiving all the tributary streams which flow from the south side of Kilimanjaro, and which increase in number and volume towards the west, the Ruvu takes a south-easterly direction, and finally falls into the Indian Ocean
. The River Saisi-Lumi confluence occurs east of Mbala, Zambia. The fish species Barbus sp. 'Pangani' has only been found in the river's N'joro Springs, situated in the upper Pangani River
