River City Broadcasting

River City Broadcasting L.P. was a major television
and radio station operator in mid-sized markets in the United States, based out of St. Louis, Missouri
.
Formed in February, 1990 as a partnership between Barry Baker and Larry Marcus, both former executives of Koplar Communications in St Louis, the purpose was to acquire, own and operate broadcast television stations and radio stations in the US. Through a series of acquisitions between 1990 and 1994, River City amassed 8 television stations and 29 radio stations in a total of 15 mid size markets.
Known for its revenue growth and cost containment, River City increased market shares, revenues and profitability in each of its acquisitions.
The company was among the elite entreprenueurial broadcast companies of the mid 90's, before the consolitation of broadcasting stations by the networks and large corporate owners. In fact, in May 1996, River City sold it's stations to the Sinclair Broadcast Group for $1.2 billion.
