He was given command of the destroyer
HMS Broadsword
in 1951, the Second Frigate Squadron in 1957 and the aircraft carrier
HMS Victorious
in 1959. He went on to be Flag Officer, Aircraft Carriers in 1964 and Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff in 1966 before retiring in 1968.
He lived at Allen's Close in Stroud
