Reedy River

 was once the site of Cherokee settlements. It became a huge part of Cherokee life and aided them in their survival. This river and its surrounding area began to become settled by the British in 1777, which started process of making the river what it is today. Homes, schools, stores and churches, were all located along the river. Mills were being built along the falls to use the river as a source of power. Ruins of these mills still remain along the riverbanks today. Eventually Reedy River Falls became the site of Furman University

Reedy River Falls Preservation

In 1907 the first idea of turning Reedy River Falls into a park was introduced. This idea had been ruined when the city began to become industrialized. Industries and even individuals used the river as a dump for waste and trash. The actual pollution hadn't ceased until the 1960's. Furman donated the land needed to set aside to begin Reedy River Falls Historic Park and Greenway. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places

The development of The Reedy River Falls Historic Park and Greenway began in the 1990s when a developer proposed the concept of turning the park into a regional attraction. The development of the park began with a budget of 13,000,000 and was funded through the City of Greenville Hospitality Tax.

Description of Park

Reedy River Falls Historic Park and Greenway is located right in the center of Greenville County. This area has become known as Downtown Greenville and is a huge attraction with its citizens. The area today is filled with thousands of stores and restaurants. The park now includes a bridge known as Liberty Bridge

and brings together many different types of greenery and so many beautiful sites that people of all ages would enjoy. The park introduces benches and swings into the beauty of the gardens and different trails throughout the park. Reedy River Falls Historic Park and Greenway has become such a huge part of Greenville's citizens. The park is open everyday throughout the year and has become well known place to visit weather you're from Greenville or just visiting.
