Origin

Rasmalai originated in eastern India. The confectioner Krishna Chandra of Kolkata's “Krishna Chandra Das Confectioner” - from the family that invented the spongy 'Rossogolla' also created the modern day “Rossomalai”, another perennial favourite. To popularize the “Rossomalai”, Krishna Chandra opened a new sweet shop at Jorasanko in 1930. It is usually eaten warm.
