Despite providing part of an important link between the county's two major communities, the rural road does not itself pass through any cities or towns. There are no highway intersections between the road's termini.

History

The highway was preceded by an unpaved county road that led directly into Valentine. RM 505 was designated in 1945 and terminates at US 90 short of reaching Valentine, unlike the previous county road.

Route description

RM 505 is a two-lane highway beginning at U.S. Route 90 approximately 7.2 miles (11.6 km) southeast of Valentine near the Quebec Switch on the Union Pacific Railroad

 which runs parallel to US 90. Along its length, the highway follows mostly long, straight paths with only gradual curves and no steep grades. The road travels through ranch land with no communities along its length and no intersections with any public roadways between its terminal points. The road ends at SH 166 near Barrel Springs in the western foothills of the Davis Mountains
