History

The town was named after an Old Slavonic

word "" (ramenye), meaning " on (or at) the edge of forest".

Ramenskoye is mentioned in documents as far back as the 18th century, when it was a village called Novoe Troytskoe , which specialized in tax collection. In 1831 a textile factory was founded in Ramenskoye, and by the second half of the 19th century, the textile factory had grown to be one of the largest enterprises in the Russian Empire.

On March 15, 1926, Ramenskoye was granted town status.
