Rajeev Chandrasekhar was a part of the team that built the first Pentium processors at Intel. He founded BPL Mobile and was one of the first investors in the early 90’s to develop India’s first and largest green field telecom infrastructure. BPL Mobile had invested and built a world-class telecom infrastructure in the metro of Mumbai and the circles of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Kerala and laid the foundation for the Telecom revolution in India. Rajeev Chandrasekhar is widely recognized for his significant role in the development of the now successful telecom sector. BPL Mobile which later merged with Essar-Hutch was benchmarked the largest ever M&A in the country, with a valuation of over 1.2 billion US dollars.
He founded Jupiter Capital in 2005 with a vision to foray into businesses of tomorrow in emerging new markets of globalizing economy of India. Jupiter Capital is recognized today for having built exciting and successful businesses and brands.
Rajeev Chandrasekhar was elected to the Rajya Sabha in May 2006, as a Member of Parliament representing Bangalore in the Rajya Sabha, Rajeev Chandrasekhar undertakes an active role in leading several issues – awareness campaign to urge people get out and vote, open and transparent public consultation around the Bengaluru Airport, strengthening of the Lok Ayukta, proposing a War Memorial dedicated to past, current and future soldiers. He is also a strong votary on Governance and Regulatory issues.
Mr Chandrasekhar is the Founder and Managing Trustee of RC Foundation which mainly focuses on programmes aimed at primary education for poor children and has been at the forefront of raising finances and resources for important causes like support for Tsunami affected people, Kargil war and defence personnel, training of tribals in Kalahandi region of Orissa and rehabilitation of children impacted by the tragic burning of school in Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu.
In an effort to serve and support the martyrs / wounded veterans of the Military, Paramilitary and Police Forces of India and their families, Mr. Chandrasekhar launched the Flags of Honour Foundation on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas on 25 July 2009. The Foundation is an endeavour to be a platform and a bridge between the citizens who seek to help, and the families of martyrs/wounded veterans. The Foundation will identify the need and requirements of these families and effectively route the much needed financial, social, and material support.
Mr Chandrasekhar’s interest are in technology, infrastructure, government finances and national security, who can contribute significantly in areas such as Public – Private partnerships for development of the country’s infrastructure, government finances, governance and national security for a strong India. The desire to contribute to national service and build a strong India is inherent in him, being born of a distinguished and committed Indian Air Force Officer.
