 and District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ) Hospital. The principal of PMC is Dr Riaz Hussain Dabb who is Head of Surgical Unit 1. The first group of graduates with M.B.B.S degrees finished in 1978.

With a grant of Rs. 460mn from the government, the construction of new buildings, laboratories and the teaching hospital was completed in 1982. PMC is recognized with the General Medical Council (GMC) and is listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED).

Campus

The college is arranged around a middle corridor which runs from the administration block and the library on one side to the Forensic and Anatomy Departments on the other. On the right of this corridor (looking from the Forensic and Anatomy end) are the Pathology and Biochemistry Departments while on the other side are the Pharmacology and Physiology departments. There are wide spaces between the departments filled with gardens.

Hostels

Punjab Medical College has separate facilities for boys and girl students. The boys hostel is located across the Sargodha Road in Iqbal Hall and Ibn-e-Sina Hall. Each hall has a mess and common room, and a common gym. Historically, Iqbal Hall has been dominated by the MSF while Ibn-e-Sina hall by the Islami Jamiat-e-Talba.

There are four halls for girl students. Fatima and Ayesha halls, located adjacent to the Allied Hospital

, mainly house the final year students while Liaquat hall accommodates first and second year students and Jinnah Hall the 3rd and 4th year. The hostels close by 9 pm and nobody is allowed in or out of the girls hostels after this time.

Library

The college has a small library (seating for 20 students) but a large collection of books (approx 29000 volumes). Most of the books are reference only.

Computer Lab

A computer lab of 29 Pentium 4 systems has been setup by the University of Health Sciences, with scanners and printers.

Other facilities

The college also has a book shop, cafeteria, examination hall, post office and a branch of Habib Bank.

Jamiat Book Mela

Held in February or March this event, organized by the Jamiat, features stalls of medical books from book stores all over Punjab at discounted prices.

Sports activities

Punjab Medical College organizes a month of sports activities every year where students participate in sports like table tennis, hockey, cricket, squash etc..

Teachers vs students cricket match

This is an old tradition of Punjab Medical College where a week before the annual sports day teachers of this institute take on the college team. This event has evolved over the recent years so that classes dress up in different colours and decorate their portions of the stadium.

Annual Sports Day

This event marks the end of the sports season in Punjab Medical College. Prizes are distributed to the winners of sports competitions. Other events include the 100m sprint, the teachers race, and musical chairs. Students dress in costumes, and classes decorate the stands in themes. Groups or classes sometimes make a dramatic entry into the stadium.

Literary Week

This event is celebrated every year to promote creativity among students, spanning over 3 days. On the first day there is Naat and Qirat(reading of Holy Quran) competition. Day 2 is devoted to debating while on the third day a "Mushaira" is held.

Golden Week

This is an unofficial activity mainly conducted by the outgoing class of the year. The students attend college in costumes.

Netizens

Netizens is the official society of Punjab Medical College and is responsible for the college website. The webmaster is Zain-ur-Rehman.. Dr. Imtiaz Dogar, head of the psychiatry department, is the president of Netizens. Netizens organizes events like the anti-narcotics day and edits the "Anastomoses" magazine.

SCOPE

Scope society was launched on 26th March 2010 to help graduate students decide a medical speciality. The idea was coined by final year student Muhammad Hasan Nadeem,who under the supervision of Dr. Mussarat-ul-Husnain and Dr. Khalid Mahmood launched the society. It was initially named CATCH. In 2010 the society organized the first ever SCOPE symposium with lectures. On the same date the SCOPE website was launched.

eMed

emed (meaning "electronic medicine") is a health organization formed by a group of doctors in PMC and Allied Hospital

. It provide free health advice to patients over the internet. It was formed in 2003 by Dr. Khurram Sohail Raja, Dr. Sarfraz Ali and Dr. Zahid Masood. It later went on to include Dr. Ahmad Bilal, Prof. Muhammad Sajid Sheikh and Prof. Hina Ayesha.

emed has 200 student members in PMC college and 600 medical students all over Punjab have an emed membership. emed organizes events in Punjab Medical College annually to promote health awareness in the community.

emed convention is an annual get together of emed members, organized in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

In the college the student body of emed runs community work.projects. The second year is responsible for the website called the voice of emed.http://www.voiceofemed.netii.net/
Third year manages a book bank while fourth year handles the drama society HEAL. Final year is given the task of a blood bank.

HEAL

"Hallmark of emed for awareness and learning" was the first drama society of the college. It was created by Waleed Haider in 2008 and was marked by performances of students as a part of World T.B day awareness symposium.
