There are plans for the Turks and Caicos Islands Government to buy back the airport for a sum of approximately $75 million which would be raised via a "special loan". The Deputy Premier stated that a number of airlines operating wide-bodied aircraft expressed an interest in beginning operations into the country. They plan to build a new terminal and lengthen the runway, which currently stands at 2316 m (7,598 ft) long.
