Porta Metronia is a gate in the third-century Aurelian Walls

The gate is located in the southern section of the wall. Located between Porta San Giovanni
east and Porta Latina
south.
At the end of the Middle Ages, the gate is closed and the entrance bricked up. Because of the increasing traffic pressure in the modern era are four main passages in addition to the original gate in the Aurelian Walls made.
The ground level around the port through the ages has increased significantly. This is the original passage has been partially underground. The tower is only the upper part of the arcade of the passage visible.
