Encyclopedia
The first celebrity edition of Pinoy Big Brother
, titled Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Edition is a special edition of the original show. Its first edition officially began on February 5, 2006 and ran for 56 days (up to April 1, 2006), this new edition auditions Filipino celebrities from different fields such as those from movie
and television
, sports figures, notable personalities, and professional models. The prizes at stake cost three million Philippine peso
s, which includes a million pesos for the winning housemate, another million for the winner's chosen charity, and another million for the charity of Big Brother's choice. Aside from the cash prizes, a condominium unit in Valenzuela City
is also at stake.
The Big Brother house that is used on this edition is the same as the house used on the first season, although there were some changes in the house's interior.
The show began with a welcome party along Manila Bay
. They were transported by yacht before the chosen housemates was formally introduced and were taken to the Big Brother House. It was supposed to be held on February 4, 2006, but because of the stampede that occurred on another ABS-CBN show earlier that day, it was rescheduled to the following night (February 5) by the network. To commemorate this, a prayer that is led by Jesuit
priest Fr. Tito Caluag, S.J., a minute of silence and a performance of "You Raise Me Up
" were done before the show started. Furthermore, Myx
VJ Luis Manzano
played pinch hitter
for Willie Revillame
, who was at the time still devastated by the said stampede (he was also the host of the said program).
Furthermore, host Toni Gonzaga becomes the main host for the nomination and eviction nights, a job that she played in the first season as a substitute for Revillame.
Talk show host Boy Abunda hosted the Big Debate, a debate show which celebrity supporters of the four housemates.<--ungrammatical sentence, what does it mean?--> The debate was held two nights before the Big Night.
The edition uses a different theme song, Sikat Ang Pinoy (Filipinos Are Famous), by Sam Milby and Toni Gonzaga
, although the original theme song Pinoy Ako is occasionally used.
The program is produced and can be seen through ABS-CBN
, Studio 23
, the show's 24/7 cable channel, and the internet (ABS-CBN Now).

. Another concept in this edition is getting away of one's comfort zone, forcing the housemates to use a stick for brushing their teeth, clay jars and an outdoor kitchen for cooking, bare hands for eating, and a water pump for potable water. All pieces of furniture provided to them were even made of bamboo.
After two weeks, Big Brother lifted the "Back to Basics" concept after seeing the housemates adapting to the said lifestyle, despite difficulties. The so-called "Forbidden Room," a pink-walled room with beds and mattresses reserved only for eviction nominees, became the ladies' bedroom, while the bamboo beds in the eventual men's bedroom were suddenly covered with mattresses. Earlier, they were provided with a microwave oven, an electric stove, utensils, and some toothbrushes and were allowed to use the swimming pool at any time, as well as wearing footwear indoors. Later, sofas (and a center table) replaced the bamboo benches in the living room.
Although not all of the following are popular, they are all celebrities in their own fields and in their own right.
: With Angela's exit on Day 12, the eviction on Day 14 was canceled and was made into a nomination night.
: Big Brother automatically put up for Eviction the nominees from the previous nominations, whom were saved after Angela's exit.
: Big Brother automatically nominated Christian and Rustom for their violations, and therefore only the housemate with the highest nomination points was included in the list of nominees.
: Open voting for the Big 4 was announced after Budoy's exit.
that happened on February 4, 2006, the show Wowowee was off the air. To take over the time slot it left behind, Pinoy Big Brother aired a special noontime edition called Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Challenge, in which the celebrity housemates play mini-games for charities of their choice (inclusive only to the housemates' charities). It started on Saturday, February 11, 2006, five days after the program Alay sa Kapamilya aired on that time slot. It aired its last episode on March 4, 2006, having raised a total of P
1,440,000 (about US$28,235) for the various charities.
The finale, so called Big Night was held on April 1, 2006 at the Philippine Post Office Building on Lawton, Manila. In the final tally, Keanna Reeves was declared the Big Winner, garnering 44.2% of the vote (571,607 votes). John Prats came in second with 28.8% (372,198 votes), Bianca Gonzalez in third with 19% (245,594 votes), while Zanjoe Marudo exited first (and therefore came in last) with 8% (103,422 votes).

Elimination Notes
- Angela - although she was not among those nominated on Day 7 (nominees were Rudy, Keanna, and Rico), she decided to voluntarily exit the house on Day 12 (February 16, 2006) to ensure the safety of her daughter. Her decision came after she found out from Big Brother on Day 11 that her house in Cebu had been broken in by robbers, although there has been no independent confirmation by this. In effect, the three nominees were saved from eviction.
- Mich - on Day 20 (February 24, 2006), she was brought to the Philippine Heart CenterPhilippine Heart CenterThe Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City was established through Presidential Decree No. 673 issued by president Ferdinand E. for a medical check-up after suffering from an anxiety attack. She failed to beat her 24-hour deadline after her doctor told her that she must stay in the hospital longer. - Rudy - on Day 21 (February 25, 2006), Mang Rudy Fernandez became the first housemate to be officially evicted from the Big Brother house after garnering only 23% of the votes. His eviction was marked by emotion as everyone in the house was sad at the news.
- Christian - on Day 28 (March 4, 2006), Christian was told to come out and see his sons. He only garnered 13.5% of the vote to be the second ever celebrity evicted from the house. Like the previous week's eviction, everyone cried when hearing the announcement, and Christian was not apparently able to say his goodbyes to everyone.
- Aleck - on Day 35 (March 11, 2006), Aleck was evicted from the house (and was very excited about it). She received 13.6% of the vote to become the first female celebrity to be evicted.
- Gretchen - on Day 39 (March 15, 2006), Gretchen exited the second time, but this time she was evicted from the house after she received 14.5% of the vote. However, voting for her co-nominees (Zanjoe, Rico, and John) continued after her eviction.
- Roxanne - on Day 39 (March 15, 2006), Roxanne was told by Big Brother about her graduation rites that Saturday, March 18, 2006. Although Big Brother would let her attend the rites anyway, her schoolMiriam CollegeMiriam College is a non-stock, non-profit Filipino Catholic educational institution for girls and young women in Quezon City, Philippines. did not want her to be isolated, making the proviso of her being blindfolded, not talking to anyone, and returning within 24 hours useless. He asked her to decide whether to continue her stay or voluntarily exit the house to freely attend the rites. The next day, Day 40, she decided take the voluntary exit. The day after that (Day 41), she reaffirmed her decision, made her goodbyes, and exited soon afterward. - Rico - on Day 42 (March 18, 2006), Rico was evicted from the house to follow already evicted co-nominee Gretchen. He received 28.3% of the votes among the remaining three nominees. That same night, there was a graduation party for Roxanne beside the house, with the ex-housemates attending. Rico and Roxanne met each other in the studio later.
- Rustom - on Day 45 (March 21, 2006), Rustom opted to voluntarily leave the house, which ensued after Big Brother told him that his friend Keanna should avoid him in accomplishing her special task, which is to convince Budoy to reveal his dreadlocks, because she was focused on talking to Rustom and John rather than on the task. Also, Rustom felt that he had accomplished his main goal in the house—to gain friends—and does not want this goal tainted by the concept of competition. He left the Big Brother House the next day, day 47 and was met with overwhelming sadness from the other housemates, especially Keanna and John.http://celeb1.pinoybigbrother.com/Default.aspx?tabid=134&articleType=ArticleView&articleId=368
