Philodryas is a genus of New World colubrid

 snakes, usually named green snakes. Although colubrid snakes are usually harmless to humans, Philodryas are opisthoglyphous snakes and can give a venomous bite. They are, however, rear-fanged with a mild venom, so a bite is unlikely to cause lasting damage to humans. There are 18 recognized species.
