, next to the Iardani river and was the important lake in Elis. During the Peloponnesian War

, the Athenians conquered the small town and used its ports for its base during the polemical undertaking in Elis. Pheia was ruined in the 6th century and sunk underwater. In the location of the acropolis

, a castle was built by the Franks

 which survives today, famously as Pontikokastro (Ποντικόκαστρο - meaning castle of the rats) or Belvedere (Μπελβεντέρε).

Its first excavations were made in 1911 . In 1973 the Archaeological Maritime Archives Institute made reports in the sea ara in the gulf of Agios Andreas in Katakolo

where it found a town. It dug in many archiectural artifacts and others. The location of the ancient city and lake is located at a depth of 5 m below sea level.
