Peter Gerald Stewart Murray (Hon. FRIBA. FRSA) (born 6 April 1944) is a British
architect
and journalist
who has made a career in architectural communications and surface design.
Peter Murray studied at the prestigious Architectural Association School of Architecture
in the 1960s.
He was editor of Building Design
and then the RIBA
Journal. In 1983, he launched Blueprint magazine
; this was followed by Eye
, the international review of graphic design and Tate magazine for the Tate Gallery
. He is chairman of Wordsearch, a consultancy explaining and promoting architecture, planning and the built environment. He has worked on major projects around the world including Broadgate
in the UK, Taipei 101
, Taiwan, Union Square
in Hong Kong, and Avant Seine in Paris.
Peter currently sits on the Board of Trustees at UK charity Article 25
, a development and disaster relief charity who design, build and manage sustainable buildings in some of the most unstable, under-developed regions of the world.
A prolific author, his major works include "The Saga of Sydney Opera House
" and "Architecture and Commerce."
In 2004, Murray launched the first London Architecture Biennale (now the London Festival of Architecture) in Clerkenwell
.
He is Honorary Secretary of the Bedford Park Society
