The Fremantle CAT fleet consists of three Mercedes-Benz O405NH units and the Joondalup CAT fleet consists of two Mercedes-Benz O405NH units.
The fleet of natural gas-powered buses was progressively introduced from August 20, 2005, and replaced sixteen diesel-hydraulic engine powered, Danish built Scania-DAB Silkeborg MidCity Series II 0860S low-floor, wheelchair accessible city buses, first introduced in 1996.
The CAT buses replaced the original City Clipper which ran through the original sections of Perth.

There is also a shorter version of the Red CAT route, run in peak times, that runs from Perth Station (Forrest Place stop) to West Perth. This route is numbered 4 and was introduced due to high demand for the Red CAT from Perth station into West Perth. Another is the "West Perth Loop" for the Red CAT route, serving stops 16 to 30 only.

The routes 12 and 13 (which are on trial basis from 25 August 2008 until 27 June 2009) was the CAT services to Joondalup Arena via Joondalup Business Park. Route 13 was run until 9am on the same route as 12, bypassing Joondalup Business Park. The route 13 has been reintroduced as the ECU route from 26 July 2010 to 18 November 2010, for trial in ECU semesters, on Monday to Thursday only. The stops are as follows:
