Persipura is one of many clubs in Indonesia who played a beautiful soccer. Persipura also is a club that never been out from the top of the competition.

In Indonesia's second division, Persipura Jayapura were crowned champion in the 1979 and 1993 seasons. Despite his success, the team was still not able to appear competitive on the national football stage, until they succeeded in winning the top flight in 2005. From the past 5 years till now, they usually never out from top 5 in the Indonesian league. Between 2009–2011 Persipura already had 2 trophies of Indonesian Super League. They took a first place in 2009–2010 term. Persipura also took a second place during 2010–2011 and also become a runner up for Indonesian Cup. They got lost from Sriwijaya FC during final, they lost 2–1 at the final. After that term they use transfer window to strengthen their team and also they keep the old coach. During this 2011–2012 season, Persipura finally took the first place at Indonesian Super League and also now they still played at AFC Champion League Cup. They will compete with Arbil Katana team from Irak. Persipura wil play home in 13th of September and also second leg they will play away in 27th of September.

Entering the era of professional football with beginning of the Super League in the 2008–09 season, the team from Papua shows the trappings of a successful team. That, coupled with the improved appearance of several local players coached, supported the presence of qualified foreign players. In this time transfer window they already recruit 5 players to strengthen their team. They bring one of the best player in Indonesian Super League Alberto Goncalves Brazilian player.

Stadium

Persipura Jayapura use Mandala Stadium as their home field. The stadium has a capacity of around 30,000 seats and still being renovated for 50,000 seat capacity. Mandala Stadium located in downtown Jayapura around Dok V, near the mouth of Humboldt Bay (otherwise known as Teluk Jayapura). The stadium is located approximately 40 kilometres (24.9 mi) from Sentani Airport.
