Football career

Paulo Jorge played for hometown club Sporting Clube de Braga for the vast majority of his career, which he began, as a professional, in 2002–03. From his early first division debuts, he was awarded club captaincy.

Although a defensive player, Jorge scored five league goals in 2006–07 to help the club finish fourth, as well as two in the season's UEFA Cup, against Tottenham Hotspur F.C.

In 2008–09, he was absent for the vast majority of the games, due to several surgeries to repair a foot ailment. His return only took place on May 1, 2009, against Rio Ave FC (0–0), and it was the only match he played in 2008-09 season.

On 10 June 2009, the board of APOEL F.C. announced the signing of the player, on a two-year deal. During his debut season, he won the Cypriot Super Cup and appeared in three group stage matches for the club, in its first UEFA Champions League
