Herrity sat on the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Technology Council in the 1990s, and founded the Transportation and Telework Committee. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Professional Services Council.

Political career

Herrity first ran for office after Springfield Supervisor Elaine McConnell announced she was not running for re-election. Herrity defeated Stan Reed in the Republican Primary and Mike McClanahan in the general election. Herrity won the general election with 59% of the vote.

On the Board of Supervisors, Herrity is the Chair of the Aging Committee and Vice-Chair of the Economic Advisory Committee. Herrity also represents the County on the Northern Virginia Transportation Committee, Virginia Railway Express
