Paschim Vihar is an upmarket residential colonies in Delhi

. It falls under Punjabi Bagh
subzone of West Delhi
. Located in the western part of Delhi, Paschim Vihar mostly comprises housing complexes, bungalows, and some commercial complexes. Settlements here started around late 1970s and 1980s, thus is a relatively old and green area. It is divided into 2 parts by the Outer Ring Road. The eastern part has the pin code of 110063 and had mostly been developed by the DDA. However the western side has the pin-code of 110087, and here huge sects of land (over 7 acres each) was allotted by the DDA to group housings. These, then made roads (within their respective land) and erected other essential amenities by themselves and allotted plots to members. Most of the bungalows of the areas are in these group housings only. Plot sizes here ranges from 164-500 square yards, with 200 being a common size. Prices are in the range of about 1.2l/sq. yrd. Post 2008, following a change in MCD
rules, the concept of a builder floors here has really took off, where these bungalows are being converted to 4-floor building in which different floors accommodate different families as against other bungalows which are one-family dwellings. The land developed by DDA has no such bungalows or builder floors. It only has apartments.
A large chunk of the population is Hindu and are Punjabis (Khatris, Aroras, Aggarwals) and Jats. However the relocatement camps (No. 4 and No.5) and nearby villages of Nangloi, Mangolpuri, and Sultanpuri have considerabe Muslim populations. Similarly Guru Harkishan Nagar on the Western Side has a significant Sikh population.
There is one mosque in the area and several temples. Almost each of the group housing on the Western side has a temple within it.
Noted apartment complexes include Supriya Apartments, Milansar Apartments, Mianwali Nagar, Cottage Enlcave Ambica Vihar, Sunshine Apartments, Manav Apartments, CA Apartments, Krishi Niketan, Ekta Apartments,State bank nagar,pushkar Enclave,reserve bank,Priyadarshni Apartments, Nivedita Enclave, Sahridaya Apartments, IFCI Colony CA, Triveni, Ritu, Anand Van Colony, Saakshara, Maitri, Balvinder, Shubh Niketan, Nav Bharat, Madhur Apartments, Venus Apartments, Lake View complexes, Shubham Enclave,Shanti Kunj, Gasta Housing Complex.The most posh residential block being A-1.
On the eastern side lies Punjabi Bagh and Paschim Puri, on the Northern Side lies the Mangolpuri Inustrial Area (on western side) and vast tracts of barren land (on eastern side), on the Western side lies lies Nangloi and Surajmal Stadium, and on eastern side lies Keshopur and Vikaspuri.
Two parts of the area are ruled by Gram Panchayats; Pira Garhi and Jwala Heri; where much of the latter has been converted for commercial usage into the Jwala Heri Market. Peera Garhi also has several many several workshops.
Nagloi and Syed Nangloi are the nearest villages which are adjacent on the western edge and a little further is the village cluster of Kirari, Neher, etc.
The area also accommodates 2 relocatement camps which were built at during the time of partition for refugees. These areas now house mainly poor and lower-middle class people. These also the hotspots of slums in the area and are adjacent to the Nangloi and Syed Nangloi Village.
The Najafgarh Drain flows through the western edge at its southern part to part away up to almost a kilometer away at the northern part.
. Where outer ring road connects the area with much of the city, Rohtak Road connects it to the Centre and the state border.
Both these roads have a very high frequency of buses. Where most buses on the Outer Ring Road are DTC low-floors, Bluelines still tend to dominate on the Rohtak Road (even after the ban issued on December 2010).
Delhi Metro's Green Line (Line 5 - Mundka-Inderlok/Kirti Nagar) passes the area on its northern edge which joins to the Red (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) as well as the Blue line (Dwarka-Anand Vihar)(incomplete). Paschim Vihar has 4 stations - Paschim Vihar East, Paschim Vihar West, Peera Garhi, and Udyog Nagar; where the prior 2 serve the side on the east of the outer ring road, the latter 2 serve the west.
Line 5 is the first in Delhi Metro to run on standard gauge. Phase 3 of the Delhi Metro which has already begun is due to extend the line on all both sides.
Paschim Vihar will also benefit from Delhi Metro's Phase IV which will be completed in 2021. The colony will fall on the line that will run along Outer Ring Road in north and west Delhi. According to tentative plans, this metro rail line will run between Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar in North Delhi and Sagarpur near Janak Puri West Delhi, passing through Madhuban Chowk (Rohini
, Peeragarhi, Meera Bagh, Uttam Nagar and Dabri crossing.
Gramin Sewa Autorikshaws also ply through the Rohtak Road for commute in nearby villages of Nangloi, Kirari, and Mundka.
Peera Garhi is the major intersection (Under Peera Garhi Flyover) between the Rohtak Road, and Outer Ring Road.
Interstate Buses going to Bahadurgarh, Hissar, and Rohtak also stop at the Peera Garhi stand.
Paschim Vihar has one bus depot at Peera Garhi and the Nangloi Bus Depot, SultanPuri Bus Depot, Mangolpuri Bus Depot and Keshopur Bus Depot are within a close reach of 2 km each.
Virtually all bus routes passing through the area run on either Rohtak Road or Outer Ring Road. Others run on both, these are mainly those running on Rohtak Road but with terminal at Mangolpuri or Sultan Puri or those running on Outer Ring Road with terminal at Nangloi or Mundka.

All the group housings on the Western side have a park and a place of worship each. This contributes to plenty of parks, and temples in the area.
Jwala Heri Village on the eastern side has been converted into a retail hub. From its early roots as a village it is now a market with all sorts of retails shops, stores, and showrooms. Plenty of illegal construction took place in the village with support from local politicians and beurocrats that flouted many safety norms and hampered the traffic flow severely. However the market is very popular among the people of West Delhi, Paschim Vihar in particular for its high street-feel and vast variety of products available. There are all types of retailers from small hawkers selling beetroot and corn to large showrooms of textile and garments. Much of the major appaerel brands' showrooms are present with Adidas, Reebok, Woodland, etc. It is also a haven of Delhi-based brands such as Lee Solly, Allen Cooper, Richlook, Cantabill, etc.
The other important market is National Market on the Western Side. However it is not hugely a shooping haven as for it serves majorly home decoration and utility items such as door handles, glass panes, doors, etc.
Other significant markets of daily utilites in the area are in GH14 and in Camp No. 4. Nangloi, nearby is also a good place for bargain shopping for its a vast market with plenty of wholesale shops.
On the eastern side for recreation, there is a DDA Sports Complex spread across a sprawling campus of about 4 hectares!It has facilities for Lawn Tennis, Badminton, Squash, Table Tennis, Snooker, Basket Ball, Volley Ball, Cricket, Swimming Pool, and Jogging, Skating, gyming.
Maharaja Agrasen Bhavan is the social hub for hosting any and all kinds of ceremonies, social and religious alike.
The Jwalaheri Mandir is the biggest temple in the area which frequently hosts cultural and religious events.

Connectivity
The area has excellent road and rail connectivity. On its northern edge runs the Rohtak Road (NH10), and the Outer Ring Road passes through its middle. Both these roads are well maintained and are 6-8 lanes wide around the area. The area has plenty of greenery with trees planted on the sides of roads, and plenty of parks and ground. On the Western Side, in Sunder Vihar there are 2 adjacent football grounds. In Guru Harkishan Nagar, there is another huge park with a jogging track of 1 km. It also has a huge district park spread across several acres which runs along the Outer Ring Road on the eastern side all the way from the underpass to the Peera Garhi Chowk.
