Customarily, new temples are announced during the church's semi-annual General Conference

. However, French newspapers reported the church's plans to build the temple at Le Chesnay, near Versailles, which prompted an announcement on July 15, 2011, three months prior to the church's October 2011 conference.

No official announcement as to the temple's planned location or construction schedule has been made. The Paris France Temple will be the first temple built in France.
