Overview

Oceanco is a privately owned custom yacht builder that works in close relationship and alliance with key subcontractors to build full displacement yachts in 80m+ range. Since its inception in 1987, Oceanco has built 24 custom superyachts up to 95m in length. The Group currently has the ability to simultaneously build 5 yachts in the 80m+ category (in various stages of design, engineering and construction), delivering approximately two yachts per year.
The Company operates in its single production facility (3.7ha with yacht building space of 45m x 145m) located in Alblasserdam, approximately 20km from Rotterdam, Netherlands. The yard has unrestricted direct access via the inland waterway system to the North Sea. Oceanco also maintains a sales, design and marketing and communications office in Monaco. Oceanco has announced that it is currently expanding its existing facility and operations to include sheds and dry-docks for yachts up to 140m in length.

History

Oceanco came into existence in 1987, when a group of South African private investors under the guidance of then CEO, Richard Hein, began yacht-building operations, with the hulls and superstructures built in Durban, South Africa. The yachts were then transported to various facilities in the Netherlands where the finishing work took place.
In 2002, Mr. Theodore Angelopoulos took control of Oceanco and embarked on a new building strategy focusing on the niche market of 80m+ megayachts and developed the “Y Generation” of Oceanco yachts which included AMEVI (Y701), 80m (262.47ft) and ALFA NERO (Y702) 82m (269.03ft). In 2008, the 75.5m (248ft) ANASTASIA was launched and in May 2009, the company launched the 85.47m (280.41ft) VIBRANT CURIOSITY with her amidships atrium, a 23ft (7m) pool and large interior volumes designed by Nuvolari & Lenard.

Current

Dr Mohammed Al Barwani, a private investor, who is based in the Sultanate of Oman, acquired Oceanco in March 2010. Barwani has interests in oil, gas, manufacturing, and minerals in Europe, the Middle East and Asia Pacific through MB Holding Company LLC as well as investments in various other diversified assets. Marcel Onkenhout, former Deputy Managing Director of Oceanco, who has been with the company for 16 years, is the CEO.

SUNRAYS, Oceanco’s 85.5m (281ft) megayacht, was delivered in March 2010. The late Björn Johansson designed her exterior lines and the interior design is by Terence Disdale. She was succeeded by the 86m (282.19ft) Nuvolari & Lenard designed SEVEN SEAS, delivered in November 2010.

The Sam Sorgiovanni designed 89m (292ft) Y707 is currently under construction at the yard for delivery in 2012 as is the Igor Lobanov 85.60m (281ft) Y708.
