Nyambe Mulenga featured prominently in Zambia's stunning World Cup qualifying draw away to Egypt, holding the defending African champions to a single goal at home. Mulenga was reunited at centre-back with former U-20 compatriot Dennis Banda.

A knee injury in a friendly match versus Ghana in August 2009 kept Nyambe out of action for 6 months. After successful surgery on his ACL in India, he completed physiotherapy and regained his place in the Chipolopolo starting XI.
