North Cape May had existed as an independent borough
, formed by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature
on March 19, 1928, from portions of Lower Township
. The borough remained independent until April 30, 1945, when it was returned to Lower Township.

living together, 13.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.7% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.88.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 22.8% under the age of 18, 6.0% from 18 to 24, 26.3% from 25 to 44, 24.2% from 45 to 64, and 20.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 86.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 81.3 males.
