The Slovene National Benefit Society
applied to have their 500 acre (2 km²) recreation center in North Beaver Township designated as a separate municipality in 1977. The S.N.P.J.
borough was created so that the society could, among other things, get their own liquor license, for North Beaver Township restricts the sale of alcohol.

In the township the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 26.6% from 45 to 64, and 14.2% who were 65 years of age or older.
