An unknown person begins preparing a room with poles, handcuffs, and a clock. It is shown he is also readying and testing various weapons. Then, masked, he kidnaps all nine of the characters and locks them into a room. He tells them that every 10 minutes he will kill one of the people in the room until they can figure out why each person, dead or alive, is in the room. Everyone is confused why they are there and slowly starts telling the group their name and occupation. Christian says he knows the Sully club owner. Christian used to owe him money, but eventually paid him off. Eddie picks up chalk and starts jotting down the possible crimes they have committed to be in their situation. Coogan admits he has gone to jails all over the states and jokes about dying from another way other than guns. 10 minutes pass, and just as the group begins to believe the murders will be staged, the abductor enters, whispers something into Christian's ear, and the petty criminal is shot. A horrified group begin working on their connection more earnestly.
Leon admits he used to buy guns. He gets out of his cuffs with Sully's help in breaking his hand by kicking it. Leon leaves the rest to try and escape. The shooter has a camera inside the room and sees the escape. Leon meets the shooter in the hallway. The shooter says he has been planning this for 2 years. Leon is told by the Shooter the gun only contains one bullet and shoots blanks. The shooter takes out a gun and shoots him, wounding him and he is dragged back into the room. While there, the shooter whispers something into Coogan's ear and Coogan tries to choke the Shooter. He shoots Coogan and drags him out telling Leon he is next.
Nhung starts speaking in Mandarin pointing at Kelley. She takes the chalk and draws glasses which Kelley use to wear. Nhung was robbed and Kelley was her lawyer while Nhung's daughter translated. Kelley remembers a name: Wade Greeley. Leon finally admits that he has killed someone and dumped the body in a nearby dumpster during a Cinco de Mayo parade. Leon also tells the rest that the Shooter has been planning this for 2 years and they start thinking of what they did in the past 2 years. Father Francis says he knows what they did but cannot say since it was told to him in a confessional box. 10 minutes has passed and the Shooter whispers into Leon's ear and shoots him and is dragged out of the room.
It eventually becomes clear that each of the nine abduction victims had a hand in sending an innocent young man to prison. Christian had borrowed money from Sully to buy drugs and then sell them but they are taken from him. Christian buys a gun from Leon and robs Nhung. Nhung, who fought her attacker pulls hair from her robber and picks Wade Greeley out of the line of suspects but Kelley has no evidence to back it up. Kelley, in risk of losing her job, steals hair from Wade's brush from the evidence room by visiting Jackson who she was having an affair with. Wade is found guilty and is in prison where he contracted AIDS through prison rape from Coogan. Christian confesses to Father Francis about what he has done. Wade gets out of jail and his health insurance denied coverage for an experimental drug that might have saved his life which was rejected by Eddie. His father has abducted the nine people he holds responsible for his son's death.
The remaining characters offer that answer to their abductor, who releases them. However, it's the lawyer who reveals herself to be the most dangerous character. She has admitted to falsifying evidence to convict the innocent young man, and to killing a man after he raped her. To keep the secrets she confessed, she kills the abductor and the other survivors and escapes... leaving "nine dead."
