His personal wealth was valued at US$1.3 billion (according to Forbes.com) in 2008, making him the worlds 897th richest man, and the 42nd richest in India, at that time. That estimate, however, was made at a time when the stock of JM Financial Ltd (the publicly-traded flagship company of the JM Financial group) was trading close to an all-time high of approximately Rs. 122 per share. Based on its current share price of Rs 35.55 (as of 11 August 2010), JM Financial's market capitalization is Rs. 26.2 billion, or roughly US$560 million. The Kampani family's combined direct and indirect equity ownership of JM Financial Ltd is between 60% and 65%.
