Nikolaus von Vormann was a highly decorated General der Panzertruppe
in the Wehrmacht
during World War II
who commanded the 9th Army. He was also a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross
. The Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross was awarded to recognise extreme battlefield bravery or successful military leadership. He wrote two books documenting his war-time experiences: Der Feldzug 1939 in Polen and Tscherkassy. He died in 1959.
