The service is provided voluntarily by the Marketing Association of New Zealand and stops only calls and mail from their 500 members. It is available only to members of the general public, not to businesses or other organisations.

To access the Name Removal Service a member of the public should e-mail or write to the Marketing Association providing their full name, address, telephone number, and fax number (if applicable) and requesting that they wish to be added to the Name Removal Service.

The name removal service is now available online. The service has been renamed as the 'Do not call' list and 'Do not mail' list.
