 arrives from the south and exits to the east. CR 253 exits west; NY 397 exits north as Western Avenue. The route heads eastward, passing through downtown Altamont. Soon after, it turns to the north passing west of Bozenkill Park and soon after, Bozenkill Road. Route 397 crosses a creek and leaves Altamont, becoming known as Dunnsville Road. Soon after, it passes west of Orchard Green Golf Course and to the east of a large hill afterwards. Route 397 enters Dunnsville and terminates at U.S. Route 20
