New York Photo Festival
Encyclopedia
The New York Photo Festival was founded in January 2007 by Frank Evers (NYPH)
and Daniel Power in an effort to establish a world-class photo festival in the United States dedicated to the "Future of Contemporary Photography". Unlike other festivals which focus more on established masters of photography or previously produced works, the New York Photo Festival is focused on providing a platform for discovering contemporary photography through an intellectual presentation of ideas and previously unseen work.
The New York Photo Festival takes place every year in mid-May over a period of 4 days and is located in DUMBO
, a thriving new residential district in Brooklyn. The inaugural event took place on May 14-18th, 2008 and attracted 15,000 visitors. In early 2007, Evers and Power partnered with the Walentas Family, well known cultural philanthropists and owners of the Two Trees Management, who provided 80000 square feet (7,432.2 m²) of exhibition space to the festival.
