The 'NOS Journaal' editorial team consists of 7 editors-in-chief, led by the chief editor. Until 1 July 2011 Hans Laroes was editor in chief. On 25th January 2011 Laroes made public that he would step-down as chief-editor on the 1st July 2011. In April it was announced that his deputy editor-in-chief Marcel Gelauff will become the new chief on the 1st July
public broadcaster. Its flagship 25-minute bulletin airs at 8:00pm every night on Nederland 1
- the most watched news programme in the Netherlands, with an audience of around 1.5 to two million viewers daily (around a fifth of the market share around that hour).
On weekdays, short daytime bulletins are broadcast every hour between 7am and 5pm on Nederland 1 with hourly repeats on Nederland 2
and the digital TV channel NOS Journaal 24. Extended bulletins air at 1pm, 6pm and 10pm with a late night bulletin also broadcast at around midnight. Fewer daytime bulletins are broadcast during the weekend.
The nightly 8pm programme along with weekday daytime and weekend late night bulletins are also simulcast (usually on a time delay) with the Dutch language

As of September 2008, there are three bulletins - the first two at 7:20pm and 8:20pm consist of 60 second updates whilst the main bulletin, aired usually between 10:00pm and midnight, runs for eight minutes, consisting of another 60 second update and two or three reports on the main national and international news, presented in a more fast-paced format.

NOS Journaal can also be heard on the radio channels of the Publieke Omroep. Short bulletins are broadcast on the top of every hour along with extended broadcasts on Radio 1 throughout the day.
