Montessori High School at University Circle, also known as MHS, is a private high school
located in the University Circle
neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio
. The school opened in August 2008 as the first private high school in the nation with the Montessori name. The campus, located on Magnolia Dr., consists of three old converted mansions and includes rooms available for boarding students. The high school
combines Montessori education with the International Baccalaureate program, making it only one of three in the United States
to do so.
MHS is certified by the State of Ohio as its graduates earn an Ohio high school diploma. The students may choose to take the International Baccalaureate exams to earn the additional prestigious International Baccalaureate diploma. Students can also earn certificates in selected International Baccalaureate courses.

History
In 2008, the campus opened up with 37 students, including 17 boarders, and two houses: Otis House and Straub House. Upon opening the school was only open to grades 9th through 11th. The entire campus was a combined $6 million, including $2.5 million used to buy the Ferris House, the third house, in 2010. The house was renovated and occupied by 2011. The first graduating class were 8 students in 2010. By Fall 2011, 80 students were enrolled in the high school, open to grades 9th through 12th.National Attention
