Monster Hits
Encyclopedia
Monster Hits is the eleventh release of the Hits compilation Series. It was released in December 1989 in the United Kingdom and was a sales rival to Now That's What I Call Music 16. The album was issued on vinyl, double cassette and double compact disc and featured 32 tracks and 3 UK Number One hits. A strong track-listing includes the biggest selling single of 1989, 'Ride on Time
', Lisa Standfield's seminal #1 hit 'All Around the World
' and Eurythmics
, Chris Rea
and Cher
.
The Hits compilation series began in 1984 and had become a successful brand for its compilers, the partnership comprising CBS
, WEA
and BMG
with healthy sales rivalling that even of the hugely successful Now series. However, it is with this release that the compilers began altering the format of the Hits series and there would several more rebrands in the years to come.
