Mokronog is a settlement in the Municipality
of Mokronog-Trebelno
in southeastern Slovenia
. It is also the administrative centre of the municipality. The area is part of the historical region of Lower Carniola
. The municipality is now included in the Southeast Slovenia statistical region
.
The parish church
in the settlement is dedicated to Saint Giles
and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Novo Mesto
. It was built in 1815 on the site of an older church. A second church in the northern part of the settlement is dedicated to Saint Florian
. It dates to the mid 17th century.
A 13th-century castle with 15th-, 17th-, and 18th-century additions, built on a hill to the south of the parish church was burned down by the Yugoslav partisans after the capitulation of Italy in 1943 and further demolished after the Second World War.
