, the position has existed since the Secretary of the Army and Secretary of the Navy was combined into the Minister of Defence. The Minister is supported by a political staff, currently made up by State Secretary Roger Ingebrigsten and Political adviser Kathrine Raddum, and a bureaucracy headed by Secretary General Erik Lund-Isaksen.
Between 1819 and 1885 the Ministry was split into two different ministries, the Ministry of the Navy
