Miguel Alemán Valdés
and Beatriz Velasco Mendoza and holds a Bachelor's degree in Law from the National Autonomous University of Mexico
. He is married to former Miss Universe
and actress Christiane Magnani and has three daughters and a son: Claudia, Mónica, Carla and Miguel Alemán Magnani. When Alemán Velasco sold his stakes at Televisa
, his son acquired them and is now the owner of Interjet
, a low-fares airline.
In 1952, Alemán backed as his successor the minister of the interior Adolfo Ruiz Cortines, who pledged a more balanced national development. But Alemán remained a political force, the focal point for more conservative elements in the party and for the new middle-class banking, industrial, and commercial interests which had risen to power in Mexico. As president of the National Tourism Council, he played a major role in the development of the resort town of acapulco and the promotion of the 1968 Olympics.
He died of a heart attack May 14, 1983, at his home in Mexico City.
On August 9, 2004 Alemán was honored by the Government of Panama
with the Great Cross of Vasco Nuñez de Balboa
.
He sought his party's nomination for the 2006 presidential election
during the first months of 2005.
