 support his claim of innocence. Subsequently, Morton was released from a Texas prison on October 4, 2011 pending further review of his case by the court, as the new DNA evidence points to the crime being committed by another individual.

The DNA profile of the unnamed male found at the Morton crime scene is also allegedly linked to a later murder in nearby Travis County. Prosecutorial misconduct of withholding evidence is suspected in the Michael Morton case.
