Metatelmatherium was named by Granger and Gregory (1943). It was assigned to Brontotheriidae by Granger and Gregory (1943) and Carroll (1988).

Morphology

A single specimen was examined by M. Mendoza for body mass and was estimated to have a weight of 134.3 kg (296.1 lb).
