In December 2008 she suffered very hard injury of right knee. She was out of tatami for almost 10 months. She came back in September 2009.

but lost her only match with Spanish judoka Leire Iglesias.
In 2009 she missed whole season because of knee injury.
In 2010 after injury Mayra changed category from middleweight to half-heavyweight and won gold medal at 2010 Pan American Judo Championships
