The assembly plant opened in 1979 as Honda's first production facility in the United States on the original U.S. Route 33 (re-christened Honda Parkway) at the site of an abandoned Pure Oil gas station and "lubritorium" (long since razed) and the former rail crossing of the abandoned Erie Lackawanna Marion-Springfield spur before moving to the present day four lane highway located nearby.

Honda announced it would cease motorcycle production at the Marysville Motorcycle Plant in 2009 (source: BizJournals.com Article). All associates will be given the opportunity to relocate to a designated Honda of America site. The ceasing of operations will allow Honda to consolidate its motorcycle operations in Japan.
